2013 Honda Fit EV Being Tested by Google & Stanford University

With the help of the city of Torrance, CA, Google and Stanford University, Honda is currently hosting an Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program. Goals of this program are to make sure they didn't miss any of the possible challenges that can come with EV technology in designing the vehicle, and also identify future opportunities for electric-battery technology.

For the purpose of this program, the participants will be tracking data on carbon emissions, MPGe, and overall energy costs.  They make perfect candidates for this testing, since the 2013 Honda Fit EV is expected to be introduced first into select urban markets in the state of California.

Having Stanford University test the Fit EV made perfect sense, since the two organizations have been collaborating for close to 12 months now in investigating the psychological and physical reactions associated with driving a battery-electric cars as compared to the responses drawn when driving traditional petrol-powered cars.

Stanford University will use the Honda Electric Demonstration Program both as an opportunity to provide Honda with the critical data and analysis they're looking for and to test their theories regarding how people respond to EVs on a visceral level. This will offer greater insight into consumers' perceptions of EVs and where there may be opportunities for Honda to overcome resistance and ultimately set drivers' minds at ease.
