CPR Training Units Donated to Hospital

[New Britain, CT] Dec. 18, 2006 - The Hospital of Central Connecticut received a big boost for its CPR training program with a gift of equipment valued at nearly $ 2,000 from the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation and Schaller Honda in New Britain.

The equipment will be used in hospital training programs on what to do when a person has a heart attack. The program was greatly enhanced by the two Resusci training units given to the hospital in November, including a "Resusci Baby"and the adult "Resusci Anne."

In presenting the CPR units, which are essential for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training, Donna Criniti Instructor in Education and Development at the hospital said, "If the right kind of treatment can be given to a heart attack victim within seconds after he or she is stricken, the chances are good that the life can be saved. CPR training teaches a person how to keep the heart beating while professional help is coming."

Because of more widespread CPR training among the general public, there has been an increase in long-term survivors from ventricular fibrillation. There are many cases in which a heart attack victim who otherwise would have died, has been saved by an ordinary person who knew CPR. The training takes from three to five hours of intensive practices and lectures.

The CPR units give signals telling when the trainee is applying the right pressure in the right spot or breathing correctly into the victim's mouth. With the training, the students learn the "feel" of giving quick, life-saving emergency treatment.

The National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation is part of the National Automobile Dealers Association with headquarters in McLean, Virginia. Its membership includes over 19,000 franchised new car and truck dealers in the U.S.

Schaller Honda, located in New Britain, initiated the idea to make this equipment donation and applied to the Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation on behalf of the hospital's CPR programs at both the New Britain General and Bradley Memorial campuses.

Dear Mr. Schaller Jr.,

On behalf of the board of directors and staff at the New Britain Youth Museum and the New Britain Youth Museum at Hungerford Park, I want to thank you for your very generous donation of $1460.00 for our annual campaign made possible through the Schaller Auto World Fund.

The mission of the New Britain Youth Museums is to promote understanding of global interactions between people and the environment.

Your generous gift to the New Britain Youth Museums helps us to accomplish our mission. With your support, we are able to continue to offer educational programming as well as provide materials for interactive exhibits. Furthermore, your generous contribution helps us feed, house and care for the animals at Hungerford Park, including the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife entrusted to our care.

I've included a picture of a very happy llama, "Lightning Bug", just returning from one of our outreach programs....in non other than our Schaller Honda Mini Van.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Donna M. Veach

Congressman Chris Murphy visited Schaller Auto World on Veterans Drive in New Britain on Monday, November 26.
